I saw this onesie in a giveaway pile at work and thought it would be perfect for Scrappy. Hucky wanted to test it though, so he's today's photo. He wouldn't let me put his arms in the sleeves but he's still awfully cute. (Spoiler alert - just wait for the next photo!)

January 24, 2013 - Time to Go Home

I didn't take any pictures during Colleen's show at The Duplex, but she was fantastic as always. And although this shot is from the sad part of the evening (the end,) the night was real fun and it was great spending time with Jimmy & Makram.

January 23, 2013 - A View from Le Bain

We had a launch party for a new line of merchandise ("DailyCandy Collaborations") at The Standard Hotel's Le Bain. It was a fun space with incredible views. Everything seemed to go well & it was a great start for this new venture.

January 21, 2013 - Reward Time

I spent a lot of time this weekend de-cluttering and organizing stuff in our basement. It's a long overdue project and it's far from over, but I decided I needed a break and needed to recognize my efforts thus far.

January 20, 2013 - Good Fortune

When I have Chinese food at home I share my fortune cookie (and the fortune) with the dogs. Sometimes what we get isn't especially relevant to any of us, but here's one that I think really works.

January 19, 2013 - Plus... Lasagna!

I celebrated turning 44 with a lot of fun things. I had a great run in Prospect Park to start the morning, made a potato roesti & fried eggs for late breakfast, watched screeners of Les Miserable & Silver Linings Playbook, enjoyed the company of Jimmy & Makram who were house guests for a couple nights, relaxed with an afternoon sidecar prepared by Colleen, laughed at the dogs being crazy about some new toys from J&M, got special-surprised by the plans sweet Tom made for us in the city with wonderful friends (all of the above along with Rich, Guy, Jack, Jon, Sean, David, Bob, Grant), ate a delicious meal at the new-ish Soho restaurant, Galli, and finally cabbed it back to Dogwood Manor for a good night's sleep!

Plus... I warmed up the lasagna I had frozen a couple months ago for snacking. All in all, a perfect day!

Paul Mitchell has a line of Pet Products and someone who works there sent a friend in the office some fun promotional bandannas (so of course some came home with me.) I think Howard is trying to do "blue steel"!

January 14, 2013 - Stank Foot

Ok... try to follow along. When I got home last night I immediately smelled something strange in the house but couldn't figure out what it was or where it was coming from. Tom said he smelled something too, sort of an ashtray/cigarette smell - like someone had been smoking. We thought maybe a window was open and it was coming from next door, but that didn't seem to be the case. I sniffed around the house (literally) to see if I could find the source, but it really seemed to just be coming from the living room. We smelled some new pillows on the sofa to see if was them for some reason, but it wasn't.

Hmmm.

Then, because she was lying next to me, I thought it might be Foxy's fur so I smelled her head and back and she smelled fine... BUT... I caught a strong whiff and zeroed in on her back foot! Eureka! Her foot was stinky! And even stranger than the fact that it smelled so bad was that it smelled like a gross, dirty, bong. Don't ask me how I know what that smells like - but that was the smell. Oh, Foxy - what are you doing during the day when we're at work?

January 13, 2013 - Broadway Opening Night

Tom and I attended opening night for the new production of Picnic. I thought the show was entertaining with a great cast, and it was super fun to be there for the "event" of it all. Plus, I ran into a friend of mine from adobe days who was the sound designer, so that was really cool. And another plus, Tom and I also got to go to the opening night party after the show... So we got to walk around a room full of theater celebrities and people who make donations to the Roundabout Theatre Company - hooray!

If you want to see some famous people who came to see the show - here's a gallery of folk on the red carpet - but I didn't take any of those pictures. Instead, I took a picture of this cop and her horse standing on 42nd Street outside the Famous Dave's BBQ where the party was happening. Enjoy!

First post-run chocolate milk of 2013... hooray! (And yes, for any of you want-to-be-detective-types out there, that does suggest it might have followed my first actual run of 2013. Shhhh.)

January 8, 2013 - Soy Ginger Wings

Tom has chicken wings on the brain almost all the time and the odds are usually pretty good he'll order them whenever we're out to eat if they are on the menu... so I have been experimenting with various recipes to try and find some good options to make at home for him.

I made this batch using Mark Bittman's basic wing technique from his "How To Cook Everything" cookbook which I think is FANTASTIC. One of the things I love about the book is the way he provides so many options/alternatives for basic recipe ingredients as well as many variations on how to change up recipes with completely different flavors. Case in point - depending on what you have in the house, classic buffalo wings can easily change to soy ginger OR honey mustard OR chile lime OR beer butter!

I should note that Tom wasn't actually home to try these - I was the guinea pig and ate them all myself - but I give 'em two thumbs up!

Our first opera of 2013 was Donizetti's Maria Stuarda. I thought it was a fantastic production and the 2 leading ladies, Joyce DiDonato and Elza van den Heever were stellar. And hopefully, no one will turn me in to the Met's Opera Police for snapping this shot of the stage curtain, but I thought it was awesome.

Our flight home from Seattle gave us a perfect view of Manhattan as we passed over it... And it never gets old, even after living here for over 21 years!!

January 1, 2013 - Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!! It's time to reset and restart this blog for another year (& maybe I'll make it all the way to the end this time ha ha!)

Tom & I celebrated New Year's Eve in Seattle, WA. We went to see the incredible Dina Martina's Christmas show at a bar with some friends and then hung around afterwards when we realized they were clearing away the seats and turning the space into a DANCE FLOOR (hooray!) This photo was actually the last one I took of the evening because I was too busy dancing later!
